For systems intended to create ID cards and other forms of identification, card software is key. Identification card software provides a design interface for the ID card, facilitates creation between the user and the ID card printer, and helps make production easy and efficient. Types of ID card software may vary widely – but there are several factors which most types of identification card software have in common:

• Design interface – One key function of ID card software is card design. Design options vary from program to program, but they usually range from simple drag-and-drop field and image options to ones which allow for advanced editing and design. • Print Functionality – Identification card software is designed with a wide range of companies and users in mind. Some users may just need to print a couple of cards every once in a while, while some may need to print many card every day, from different locations. For the busier user, some types of ID card software, like the AlphaCard line, come with several different types of printing privileges – the simplest version of the software allows for printing only, not design. Other versions allow for design, editing and database access. Having different print functionalities can help make the ID creation process more efficient in larger or busier environments, where one user can create the cards and one can print them out en masse.




• User Log-ins – Design, security features, and print privileges aside, one of the most important (and sometimes overlooked) features of identification card software is protecting the creative process and the workstation from unauthorized use. Most identification card software programs come with at least one form of login or “lock” which prevents unregistered, unauthorized users from creating cards.
