Plastic Library Cards
ID card systems that utilize proximity card technology are capable of advanced functionality, enhancing security while providing added convenience. A proximity card contains an embedded antenna that transmits a frequency readable by special proximity card readers. In most cases, a prox card signal is received when the card is held within a few inches of the reader, though the range changes depending on the model of proximity reader. These contactless card systems are commonly utilized for effective access control in a myriad of locations ranging from office buildings to apartment complexes.
Employee Prox Cards
Whether you represent a small elementary school library or a large public library, every library must contend with the creation and distribution of library cards. For schools, student ID cards may serve multiple functions-- including that of library card-- but a municipal library or any library that's open to the public can benefit from an integrated library card creation system. Issuing ID cards from a remote location can take a long time, requires the issuance of temporary cards and often results in loss. However, even the most basic ID card printer can help you run your library more smoothly.
Choosing A Library Card Printer
If you tend to issue library cards in person, on an individual basis, a basic, manual-feed color or monochrome card printer may provide to be a cost-effective solution that will eliminate the annoyance of temporary card issuance. Or, if you plan to print standard library cards, you may opt for a printer with an automatic-feed function so that you can print batches of standard library cards that you'll encode later on. Plus, with the proper software, you can even track the popularity and frequency of certain book, album or film titles, films, genres and more for budget and purchasing purposes.
Adding access control functionality to an ID card allows you to keep track of who may enter or exit the library, who is in the library at a certain time, or who's in special sections of the library. Library cards using access control can help you keep a better eye on your facility, which likely contains on valuable books and equipment. Library cards with magnetic stripes may be used in card readers, which can be placed outside of the door to microfilm rooms, film screening rooms or any part of your library that houses expensive equipment. Whether you're interested in keeping your library safe or just want a way to streamline the process of library card issuance, the correct library card maker might just be the tool you need.
