Working with ID Badge Machines
Working with an ID badge machine is not as complicated as one might think. The machine functions as part of a complete photo identification system, and while a badge maker can be an exceptionally powerful and versatile device, there’s no reason to be intimidated. These systems are designed with the user in mind. Their intuitive nature makes printing a relatively simple process, not that much different than using an ordinary desktop printer. In fact, badge machines can communicate on the same network as other printers, so the process of selecting the machine and printing is very similar to a regular print job in many ways.
The capabilities of an ID badge machine of course are very different than those of an ordinary printer. These machines are capable of printing professional photo ID badges that can range from the very basic to extremely sophisticated. Some organizations simply need ID cards that feature a name and a photo, while others require advanced security features such as encrypted smart chips and proximity technology.
The components of a complete identification system include the badge printer, the ID card software, a digital camera, and your existing PC computer. Once you’ve acquired the proper software and badge machine to produce your desired ID badges, the process of creating them is a fairly easy process, even for first-time users.
Most ID card software programs can communicate with outside programs from which they can pull database information. The information can be placed directly into either a pre-formatted card template, or your own custom card design. Photos and logos can be added to the design usually with just a few simple clicks of the mouse. Once you’ve completed the look of your ID badges, and added the desired functionality, it’s just a matter of sending the file to the ID badge machine which prints and embeds your chosen elements onto a durable plastic card.
